Circle Club
Barton Arcade in the back alley off St Ann’s Sq. t: 0161 288 8116
The Circle Club just seems to get better and better. It will never be quite like the heady Hacienda days in the 80’s but it is a very cool place to hang out till the early hours. It’s a well run safe club, playing the best in dance and R&B, the DJ’s truly know what they are doing. It has also opened a superb new restaurant on the ground floor in the Barton Arcade, called the Kitchen. This is frequented in the main by a ‘good’ looking crowd that usually follow on from Panacea between midnight and 1am. Expect a 20 minute wait at 1am also you will need to be a member to get in. Alternatively you can call and book a booth in advance or become a member. Members can take two guests in so if you know anyone you are best to ask them to put your name on the door otherwise you will not be allowed in. Exceptions being football players, pop stars models and wannabee’s! Saturdays are very busy but Thursday night is also a great night. If you are looking for the ‘it’ crowd then this is where to find ……it, Good luck!

Birdcage
Withy Grove opp Printworks t: 0161 832 1700
The Birdcage club is a tad commercial but it is great fun. On a Saturday night every hour the stage in filled with a dozen dancing transvestites! But it’s all in good taste. Playing all your favourite chart pop music and is a big favourite for hen parties. There is also a very big midweek student night. In all, a large, safe fun club.

Tiger Tiger
Printworks opp Manchester Wheel t: 0161 385 8080
Similar to the Birdcage but without the Trannies! It is not as commercial but it is very large and set out on three floors. This is a great club and very popular. On a Saturday night it is heaving with hundreds of clubbers. The age group is around 23 years and below.

Opus
Also in the Printworks opposite Manchester Wheel t: 0161 834 2414
If you like your dance music then you will love Opus. It’s probably the closest you will get to an Ibiza superclub. The sound system is excellent. Probably a good idea to go online to see what DJ’s are playing.

Sankey Soap
Jersey Street, Mainly Students t: 0161 661 9668
I am not sure how it got its name maybe something to do with foam parties! This is five minutes out of the city in a warehouse. It is pure House and Dance music and for those who remember very much like the good old Hacienda Club. If you know what you like then check online and go see. It’s good it’s guuuud.

Ruby Lounge
Thought I would throw this one in the mix. Best described as a Lap dancing Rock Club! Not for everyone but every week they also have some amazing live tribute bands. Jimmy Hendrix, Aerosmith, Santana and the Doors to name a few. If you like rock music then you can do no wrong paying this venue a visit. The Saturday night promotion is called ‘Caged Asylum’ this might give you a clue as to what goes on here.
